The Dropskots at Larimer Lounge in Denver

The Larimer Lounge in Denver is held up by stickers (see above).  I am very sure that whatever so-called building that is supposed to be there was chipped away decades ago by endless amplifiers and drums and the roof is simply being held up by a silly number of band stickers.  I guess in a way its like a living museum of Denver bands with a staggering sticker collection that gets added to every night which makes it ever changing and always interesting.  The Larimer Lounge is another one of those venues that pulls in major acts that will surprise you.

Heck Kyle Gass played Larimer Lounge a couple months back and he plays the 5000 seat Fillmore with Tenacious D when they come through town.  The Larimer Lounge has good sound and a group of neighborhood “regulars” who will stick around no matter who is playing.  I think they just like to see the punks, metal heads, indie kids, etc just to observe the different types of weirdness.  And the ultra cheap but good BBQ on the patio keeps them around as well.  Its kept me around through some metal sets that would have killed a deaf boar, so I know.

The Dropskots

On July 16th one of Colorados most popular skate/pop-punk bands, The Dropskots, will be celebrating their 10th year anniversary at The Larimer Lounge.  The Dropskots are melodic and punchy skate punk with pop punk overtones and have toured the country many times supporting several albums and compilations they have been on nationwide.  In the direct support slot for the show is one of my favorite Denver skate punk bands Boldtype who were formed in 2002 but its only been in the few years they have really hit a stride with appearances on the Vans Warped Tour and other national tours.  Next up is The Freeman Social from Durango who are rockin and loose post punk/indie rock with influences like Sonic Youth and Husker Du.  Overall this is going to be a great night of tunes.
