Gallery Fridays: Austin, Denver, Santa Fe

Zozobra, fiestas in Santa Fe, and ACL and Wild Frontier Festival in Austin—so many festivals, parties and events are going off this weekend. So, let’s get right to it.

SANTA FE

September 9, tonight, Hip Hop Hope OPENING exhibition and dance party starts at 6 pm with Monkia Bravo and Greg Sholette at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Also, SFAI will have a reading and film screening, including a film about the hip hop community in NYC, tomorrow September 10. Many more events surrounding Hip Hop Hope occur throughout the weekend, more details here.

CCA’s Cinematheque—still one of my favorite venues in Santa Fe to watch movies—screens Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow airs at 3:00 and 8:15 pm September 9-11.

Shared Intelligence: American Painting and the Photograph CLOSES at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum this weekend, September 11.

Also on Sunday, September 11, Carla Bozulich, The Proxemics, Venus Bogardus will be at High Mayhem.

Part II of David Solomon’s exhibition, Hell and Heaven, OPENS next Thursday, September 15 at the Santa Fe Community College’s gallery. The press release can be downloaded here.

AUSTIN

Gallery Black Lagoon OPENS Color Space & In Search of Lightness, tonight, Friday September 9.

A Member’s Preview held tonight for The Anxiety of Photography, September 9, at the Arthouse, followed by public OPENING, September 10 along with conversation with a conversation with Matthew Thompson, Associate Curator, Aspen Art Museum at 2 pm on Saturday. Anxiety of Photography OPENS in tandem exhibitions, also held at the Austin Museum of Art. Additional events this week at the Arthouse include: Rachel Adams’ lecture about the latest exhibition, 6 pm on Wednesday, September 14.

Mike Tajima: The Architect’s Garden exhibit OPENS at the Visual Arts Center (VAC), at 6 pm on University of Texas campus.

Colby Bird: Dust Breeds Contempt OPENS this weekend as well at Lora Reynolds Gallery on September 9.

I’m Ok You’re Ok, work by Suzanne Koett OPENS at the Birdhouse Gallery on September 10.

Jan Heaton exhibit OPENS September 10 at Wally Workman Gallery, 1202 W 6th St, at Blanco St, through October 1st, 6-8pm

September 11 Claude van Lingen performs at Co-Lab Project Space.

And, Thursday next week, September 15, Red Dot Spree at Women and Their Work.
