Wild Frontier Fest Turns Three

A couple of years ago, Vagabond Collective found itself smack dab in the middle of an intoxicating local music scene. Priding themselves in their openness to a variety of musical genres and being able to curate very unique events, Vagabond Collective decided to develop Wild Frontier Fest as an annual outlet to showcase the next wave of musical talent in Austin.

The first incarnation of Wild Frontier Fest, in 2010, consisted of 25 bands on two stages at the Mohawk. By the time its second year rolled around, Wild Frontier Fest had evolved into a two-day festival of 40 bands at Emo’s, nearly doubling in size and scope. We knew when we talked to Ricky Valenzula (CEO of Wild Frontier Fest and Vagabond Collective) last year, that Wild Frontier Fest was feeling growing pains. Sure, the 2011 event was bigger and better; but, as Valenzula confessed, “it was also a hundred times more difficult to pull off.”

So, for its third year, Wild Frontier Fest (Saturday, September 8) has returned to the two stages of the Mohawk for a one-day festival with yet another impressively diverse line-up of music that is just shy of 30 bands. Baths, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Mother Falcon, and Wild Child headline the 2012 event which is rounded out by Acre Yawn, Bandhaus, B L A C K I E, Boyfrndz, Click-Clack, Danny Malone, Diving Captain, Gold Beach, Growl, Henry + The Invisibles, Illustrations, Look Mexico, Major Major Major, Milli Mars, Mirror Travel (formerly follow that bird), The Preservation, Prom Date, Pswingset, Shmu, The Sour Notes, Speak, Sphynx, The White White Lights, and Zlam Dunk.
