Composer Barbara Monk-Feldman’s Opera to Premiere at Canadian Opera Company
In October, the Canadian Opera Company will present the Canadian world premiere of Pyramus and Thisbe, an opera by Canadian composer Barbara Monk-Feldman. Alexander Neef , COC’s general director, describes the piece as an innovative and “very serious piece.” Monk-Feldman, who has resided in Santa Fe and was the artistic director of the Time Shards music series, explains the opera’s genesis as an encounter with a Nicolas Poussin painting titled Stormy Landscape with Pyramus and Thisbe (1651). “When I saw the Poussin painting, I knew right away it was a subject for an Opera,” Monk-Feldman said. (She appears at 2’33” of the video.) Pyramus and Thisbe will be performed from October 20th to November 7th, 2015 in Toronto. For ticket information, click here.
