Loveboat for Little Dragon
Heres what I love about live music (and I dont love live music): the instantaneous feedback loop. I witnessed this at a Little Dragon concert at the Parish in Austin. The opening band, billygoat, played and the audience loved it, but the fans were waiting for Little Dragon. This anticipation causes a swell of emotion that explodes onto the headliners when they enter the stage. The band plays, and the crowd cheers. BAM! Instantaneous feedback loop. Theres no waiting, no closeted thoughts or feelings. Youre live; theyre live and your body language and shouting says it all ““ we love you; you rock. Or, at a bad concert, we hate you; you suck.
So, I love this. The crowd creates an imaginary machine to generate love or hate, which then fuels the band. Im visualizing this machine must look something like Duchamps “The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors””” a glorified “de-virgin-ing” apparatus. Except we already know that most band members have been de-virgin-ed. But, thats not the point. The point is that our crowd created a gigantic, cacophonous, energetic love-boat in honor of Little Dragons performance, because Little Dragon was amazing. Voila! A Valentines Day gift to a loved band. Enjoy the rest of your tour! Remaining tour dates here.
