Part of May 2012 by

Chaos in Tejas, Austin

I will always feel a unique kinship with Chaos in Tejas being that it was the subject of my very first post on Adobe Airstream. The funny thing is – I decided to re-read that post after I was about halfway through this one, at which point I discovered that my introduction was practically identical. So, yeah, I guess things have not really changed that much for me. My music tastes continue to mellow with age which continually pushes me further and further away from musical events such as Chaos in Tejas (May 31 – June 3, 2012); but, like last year, Chaos in Tejas does feature a lot more than just punk, metal and hardcore. In fact, I already have my itinerary all planned out.

Thursday, May 31 – East Riverside seems to be the place to be, with Art vs. Science, Cheap Curls, Fresh Millions, Slash Future and Sphynx at the Beauty Ballroom; while some classic punk bands like Cockney Rejects and Warrior Kids tear up Emo’s East right next door.

Friday, June 1 – It has been a while since I have seen No Age and they consistently blown my mind every time that I’ve seen them. They are playing at the Beauty Ballroom with two other bands that I really want to check out, Ceremony and The Young. So there is that… But then I also noticed the amazing line-up at Cheer Up Charlies, featuring Silent Diane, Thousand for Whale Claw, Chelsea Wolfe, Martial Canterel, Daughn Gibson, and SURVIVE. So, that is going to be a very tough decision…

Saturday, June 2 – The band I am most excited about seeing at Chaos in Tejas is The Clean. Originally formed in New Zealand in 1978, The Clean are one of my favorite Flying Nun bands along with The Verlaines and The Bats. I have never had the opportunity to see The Clean perform live, so I will definitely be camped out at Club Deville on Saturday. Luckily, there are a lot of other great bands at Club Deville that night: Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Royal Headache, Daughn Gibson, Sea Lions, Give, and the Hex Dispensers.

Sunday, June 3 – If I have not already reached maximum music overload by Sunday, I will be heading to Emo’s East for what promises to be my favorite start-to-finish bill of the festival with Best Coast, Lemuria, Laura Stevenson and the Cans, and the Mind Spiders.

Oh, and as with any music festival, the schedule is subject to change at any time, so Chaos in Tejas strongly recommends checking their spreadsheet schedule for any last minute changes.
