American Photographer Jan Groover, 1944-2012

Jan Groover, recognized American photographer, died shortly after the new year at 68 years old, reports Richard Woodward of The Wall Street Journal. Woodward described Groover’s art as The Poetry of the Ordinary in written memoriam, yesterday.

Groover studied painting at Pratt Institute in New York, however the artist received artistic acclaim for her photographs. Woodward writes that Groover’s photographs, “bore more of a kinship with the work of Cézanne, Morandi and Corot than with anything emerging from the darkrooms of her contemporaries.”

Recognized in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1987, Groover’s photographic contributions will be remembered. She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, 1944.

Groover is survived by her husband Bruce Boice.
